CELF
Summer Institute Goals
The Summer Institute provides educators with in-depth content knowledge, resources and guided planning with the goals to:
- increase participants' understanding of sustainability, its relevance, importance and application to instruction, and
- gain strategies for improving student learning, understanding and achievement through meaningful sustainability-based curriculum integration
For teacher teams participating with the objective of planning for school wide or team wide implementation, the Institute will provide a framework with the goals:
- to develop a school culture committed to the principles of Sustainable Development;
- to go beyond awareness raising to action learning and integration with school curricula;
- to encourage the involvement of the whole school;
- to encourage the involvement of a school's local community and a shift in the broader community towards more sustainable practices and processes;
- for teaching and learning for sustainability to become a fundamental component of the school curriculum;
- for schools to become actively engaged in planning, acting on and reviewing their sustainability values, visions, principles, actions and outcomes.
The ultimate goal of the CELF Summer Institute is to contribute to the preparation of today's K-12 students for the environmental, social and economic challenges and opportunities they will face tomorrow.
