Our Call to Action

Despite significant advances in this Age of Information, globally integrated teaching paradigms fundamental to building a sustainable ecological, social and economic future are just now beginning to appear in U.S. K-12 curricula.

While the concept and framework of sustainability and appreciation for macro systems have grown over the past 30 years, curricula that reflect broader, integrated and deeper knowledge exist only at the university level: such curricula have yet to be found in most K-12 schools.

Yet, excellent, high quality sustainability K-12 curricula have been developed since the 1992 Earth Summit and particularly in more recent years.

CELF was founded to make a difference TODAY by connecting K-12 teachers and their students with the best programs and training in sustainability education and systems thinking.

We believe effort must be increased to bring K-12 students an accelerated awareness and integrated focus on what we foresee of their world tomorrow.  Without it, traditional curricula and educational standards development processes will continue to fall behind rapidly advancing frontiers of knowledge. The net result of failing to act now is that tomorrow’s leaders will be adversely impacted, not by a shortage of available knowledge or resources, but by our society’s own inability—or unwillingness—to respond in a timely, appropriate, and enlightened manner.
